LMSA—Utah’s Mission

Our mission is to improve the overall wellbeing of the underserved.  We focus on the Latino community but extend our mission to any group in need, regardless of their ethnic, socioeconomic, or other demographic characteristics.

About LMSA—Utah

Many of the programs we participate in focus on promoting the educational advancement of underrepresented students and their families. We believe that education promotes the development of the skills needed to alleviate the abundant disparities our communities experience.

In addition to having a focus on community development, we aim to continuously strengthen the presence of underrepresented Latino health professionals. LMSA—Utah, in conjunction with the SOM Diversity office, offers numerous pre-medical programs that aim to increase the number of future Latino medical students.

Likewise, LMSA—Utah also strives to provide a strong supportive environment that helps Latino medical students maximize their experience here at Utah Med. We work closely with faculty and staff to establish robust social networks and relationships that provide opportunities for professional development and the resources for the successful completion of our medical education.

Who should join?

EVERYONE interested in helping the underserved! Although our group does focus on Latinos, we welcome anyone and everyone who simply wants to either learn more about treating Latino patients or health disparities in general.
